Throughout my childhood years through the 1990’s I have been fortunate enough to have beautiful toys, clothes and unique object’s that are very special to me. Every single thing I have ever kept has a meaning, and is very personal to me reminding me of specific times in my life. I am also very inspired by vibrant colours and textures and want to translate this through my work.
For my final year I have designed a youthful 1990’s inspired fashion collection for women. As I love all things cliché of that era. ‘Acceptable in the 90’s’ is a series of vibrant fabric samples which celebrate that decade. Utilising a variety of texture, colour and textile techniques such as hand embroidery, embellishment with beads, screen -printing, digital printing and 3-D application, these fabrics are lively and unexpected. I have also used different scents to screen print with onto my fabric samples to re-create the ‘scratch and sniff’ craze from the 90’s to enable my collection to interact and excite the audience.
